This document is a report on the proceedings of an Expert Consultation on Biodeterioration of Cassava held at FAO Headquarters, Rome, Italy, on 11-13 Dec. 1991. The physiology and biochemistry of postharvest deterioration were considered. The use of molecular techniques to clarify biochemical events of the degradation process and for expedient genetic manipulation in breeding cassava varieties with superior storability was considered the most appropriate solution to the problem.
