Rambutan fruits (cv. Rongrien) were sealed in polyethylene (PE) bags (15 fruits/bag) with 0, 1, 2 or 3 ventilation pores and stored at 10 or 12 deg C. Chilling injury occurred at both temperatures but developed more rapidly at 10 deg . Fruits in sealed bags with no ventilation had least chilling injury but developed an off-flavour early during storage. After 18 days' storage at 12 deg , the atmospheric composition in bags with one ventilation pore was 0.3-0.7% CO2 and 16.1-19.5% O2. Fruits stored at 12 deg in bags with one ventilation pore had the longest storage life (18 days). Unpacked fruits stored at 10 and 12 deg had a storage life of 5 and 8 days, respectively.
