Fluctuations of nematodes populations in vineyards and their reduction with nematicides in the Hermosillo Coast.

Thompson seedless and Carignane vineyards in the Hermosillo Coast of Mexico were sampled for nematodes at 15 days intervals from 15 Jan. to 30 Nov. 1987. The seasonal fluctuations of Meloidogyne spp. J2 and Xiphinema spp. populations in the upper 30 cm of soil in the vine row were investigated. Population levels were higher in March-May at temp. >17 deg C, but in June numbers declined possibly due to lowered soil moisture. Nematode levels increased in late July possibly due to rain but declined in late Nov. possibly due to low temperatures. Fenamiphos, aldicarb and carbofuran were applied at postharvest at dosages of 5, 4.5 and 5 kg a.i./ha respectively to Thompson seedless grapevines. Populations levels of Meloidogyne J2 and Xiphinema decreased with aldicarb while those of Pratylenchus were reduced with aldicarb and carbofuran.
