Comparative advantages, competitiveness and competitive strategies in the Hungarian post-harvest sector.

 

Hungarian horticultural production, processing and trade has undergone significant changes with the transformation of the national economy. The dynamic changes in the economic framework of horticultural production and processing (change of ownership in production sphere, collapse of COMECON, reapproach of the EU, changes in vertical relations between the members of the production chain, decreasing domestic aggregate demand, liberalization of foreign trade etc.) necessitate the redefinition and rebuilding of the competitive strategy of the Hungarian horticultural industry. Using Porter's four-dimensional model of factors, the strategic alternatives of development of the Hungarian horticultural industry are analysed and the key directions of development are outlined.
