Postharvest shelf life of yellow melon cv. Agroflora 646.

After harvest, fruits were transported over 5 days then held at 25 plus or minus 2 deg C and 70 plus or minus 5% RH for 45 days. The fruit flesh temperature during this time was 26 deg . The fruits were assessed at 5-day intervals for contents of soluble solids, total sugars, reducing sugars and vitamin C [ascorbic acid], pH, titratable acidity, firmness, weight loss, and internal and external appearance. The data are presented graphically. Firmness of pulp tissue declined and weight loss increased with time during holding; the content of reducing sugars rose and that of vitamin C decreased but there were no significant changes in the other parameters. It is concluded that this cultivar has a shelf life of 30 days from harvest.
