Six fungi, Alternaria alternata, Aspergillus niger, Fusarium moniliforme [Gibberella fujikuroi], Fusarium solani, Drechslera australiensis [Cochliobolus australiensis] and Colletotrichum capsici, associated with chilli (Capsicum annuum) fruit rot were pathogenic when artificially inoculated. Of these A. niger, C. australiensis and F. solani causing fruit rot of chilli constituted new host records from India. Fruit rot development by all the fungal pathogens was completely arrested when inoculated chillies were kept at 0 and 5 deg C, while disease development was slow at 10 and 15 deg . Temp. between 20 and 30 deg were conducive for fruit rot development in chillies.
