The paper analyses the seasonal pattern of arrivals and their effect on wheat prices in four regulated markets in Bihar, India: Sasaram and Mohania (primary markets) and Bokaro and Dhanbad (secondary markets). The study covers the period 1980/81-1989/90. The results indicate that farmers in wheat growing areas market a substantial part of their produce in the postharvest months and obtain a comparatively lower price. The seasonal variation in arrivals of wheat is more apparent in primary markets than in secondary markets. However, wheat arrivals are more sensitive to their ruling prices in secondary markets than in primary markets.
