Postharvest behaviour of cucumber cultivars.

 

Fruits of 10 cucumber cultivars were held in perforated plastic bags at 12 deg C or without bags at 12 or 24 deg for either 14 or 30 days. The fruits were assessed at intervals for loss of FW, deterioration, and changes in flavour, colour and appearance. The best results were obtained with fruits held in plastic bags at 12 deg . In this treatment, weight loss after 30 days ranged from 2.73 to 4.76%, compared with 8.36 to 14.46% in fruits held without bags at 24 deg . Overall, cultivars Shibata, Aodai AFX 832, AFX 565 and Safira gave the best results.
