The effect of fungistatic preparation RUN on the conservation of technological quality of long-range stored sugarbeet.

 

The effect of RUN (LA 117/90) (magnesium hydroxide) on storability and quality of sugarbeet was tested in a 2-year experiment conducted in 1992 and 1993. Preparation for fungicide application included root soaking in a water suspension at 1 litre/t sugarbeet. Storage time in 1992 was 63 d and in 1993, 49 d. In the course of storage of treated and untreated sugarbeet, the wt loss, sugar content, polarimetric sugar content, root contamination by storage diseases, variations in the content of technologically important nonsugars (nitrogen substances, K and Na) and refined sugar yield were studied. The beneficial effect of the preparation on decrease in storage losses was correlated with weather conditions, storage duration and crop quality before storage. In 1992, with good weather conditions, the treated sugarbeet had relatively low sugar losses compared with the control, and in 1993, with unfavourable weather conditions characterized by frosty weather and subsequent thaw, the decrease in sugar los
