The postharvest fruit quality of the apple cultivars Gloster and Jonagold grown on MM.106, M.26 and M.9, Sampion on M.26 and M.9 and Elstar on M.26 and P 22 was evaluated over 3 years. Fruit Ca concentration was high in Gloster on M.26, Jonagold on M.9, Sampion on M.26 and Elstar on P 22. Fruits of Gloster on M.26 and Jonagold on M.9 had the highest soluble solid contents and were firmest. In storage at 2 deg C, susceptibility to bitter pit depended on the rootstock scion combination. For Gloster, the incidence of bitter pit was lower in fruits grown on less vigorous rootstocks. For Jonagold and Elstar, bitter pit was more prevalent in fruits grown on M.26 than on other rootstocks.
