Economics of indigenous storage method in Jabalpur district, M.P.

 

This study investigates storage methods for wheat and rice, storage costs, storage losses and the quantity stored by various size groups of farmers. The study was conducted with a sample of 36 farmers belonging to small, medium and large land holding size groups in Jabalpur block, Jabalpur tehsil, Madhya Pradesh, India. Kuthiya was the most common method of storing wheat and rice. In addition to Kuthiya, large land holders used Kuthla and banda also. Farmers incurred heavy losses in commodity storage in some of the years studied. The capacity of a storage method was found to increase with size of land holding.
