Iprodione residue levels in plums and nectarines and control of post-harvest decay in Flamekist nectarines.

Studies were conducted to determine iprodione residues in Santa Rosa, Harry Pickstone and Laetitia plums and Flavortop, Zaigina and Flamekist nectarines, the rate at which iprodione breaks down when a preharvest treatment is followed by a postharvest treatment with an atomiser and the effectiveness of a postharvest treatment with iprodione against decay in Flamekist nectarines inoculated with Botrytis cinerea. The results revealed that residue levels on plums that had received 2 pre-harvest treatments and no postharvest treatment were never higher than 0.85 mg/kg, while in nectarines they were as high as 2.5 mg/kg. Iprodione did not break down with time. It is suggested that the extremely high residue levels on plums that had received a postharvest treatment can be prevented by calibrating the atomiser. An alternative application method for plums will have to be tested in the orchard. A concentrate spray with smaller droplets may solve the problem of fungicides that run off without leaving resid
