Carbonyl sulfide, ethyl formate, hydrogen cyanide and phosphine were screened against a range of cut flower genera to determine their phytotoxicity, and insecticidal efficacy against Tribolium castaneum. Phosphine appeared to have the best general potential for immediate introduction. Hydrogen cyanide and carbonyl sulfide may have application for specific plant genera, while ethyl formate caused unacceptable damage to foliage.
