Studies to determine the host status of avocados to Ceratitis capitata were conducted at 3 colour stages: 100% green; 50% green:50% black; and 90% black using hard avocados and nashi pears in the laboratory at 26 deg C, 60-65% RH and LD 12:12. The results showed that hard 'Hass' avocados were an unsuitable host for three days after harvest. The 'hard condition' fully satisfied the stringent conditions required for quarantine for the export of avocados from Western Australia.
