บทคัดย่อ

Fumigation of pallet stacks of dried fruit with methyl bromide.

The efficacy of methyl bromide fumigation of a pallet stack of boxes of sultanas and safe procedures for the breakdown of the stack were investigated. Boxes were grouped together as pallets (84 boxes on a cardboard slip sheet, with the sides wrapped with plastic) and handled with fork-lift trucks. This practice was evaluated by breaking down a stack 17.5 h after removal of the fumigation sheet and measuring methyl bromide concn in the workspace. No methyl bromide was detected in the fork-lift cab or the exposed outer surfaces of pallets. The gaps between pallets facilitated ventilation and air currents created as the stack was broken down ensured rapid dilution of methyl bromide between pallets so that the concn within the workspace did not reach the threshold limit value of 5 p.p.m.
