Evaluation of pre-harvest fungicides for the control of postharvest diseases in mangoes.

The effects of pre-flower application of flusilazol (as Capitan) and pre-harvest applications of copper oxychloride (as Demildex), flusilazol plus carbendazim (as Punch-C) and prochloraz manganese chloride complex (as Octave), were assessed against blossom blight and soft brown rot (Nattrassia mangiferae) and anthracnose (Colletotrichum gloeosporioides [Glomerella cingulata]) in mangoes. Trials were performed in the Letsitele Valley on cultivar Kent. Flusilazol sprayed approx. 6 weeks before flowering did not reduce the incidence of blossom blight. Monthly applications of flusilazol plus carbendazim and prochloraz manganese chloride complex had no significant effects on the incidence of soft brown rot and anthracnose. Monthly applications of copper oxychloride was the only treatment that reduced the incidence of soft brown rot and anthracnose significantly.
