Nitrogen fertilizer effect on postharvest quality of 'Arapaho' thornless blackberry fruit: final report.

The effect of N (0, 50 or 100 lb N/acre applied at bud break or a split dose of 100 lb N/acre applied in equal doses at bud break and postharvest) on postharvest quality of blackberries cv. Arapaho was investigated in Arkansas during 1995. Fruits were placed at 3 deg C, 95% RH for 0, 2, 4, 6 or 8 days. N rate had no significant influence on soluble solids content, titratable acidity, sugar/acid ratio, total solids content, firmness or weight loss of fruits, but tended to increase the pH of fruits. During storage, firmness and pH tended to increase, weight loss was observed, and soluble solids content and titratable acidity tended to decrease. N rate did not affect storage quality.
