บทคัดย่อ

The distribution of ripening of Jonagold and Golden Delicious apples within the tree.

Ripening of apples (cultivars Jonagold and Golden Delicious) can be described by means of the Streif-index (firmness/(refractometer value x starch index)). Previous work showed that under Belgian conditions the index value at the OHD (optimum harvest date) seemed to be 1.5 for Jonagold and 1.3 for Golden Delicious. Based on these values, there was considerable variation in maturity of individual apples at the OHD. Thus, sequential picking was required, but since there was no correlation between ripeness (described by the Streif-index) and several visible parameters (position of the fruits on the tree, background colour, blush), it was difficult to select suitable fruits at each picking. Fruit weight was the only reliable parameter for successive picking in both cultivars.
