บทคัดย่อ

Diseases caused by viruses in potato.

The main viral diseases found in Brazil are indicated and a tabular list of vectors and mode of transmission is given. A detailed account is presented of the most important and damaging virus in the major potato-growing regions of the south and south east, viz. potato leaf roll luteovirus. Information is included on symptoms, transmission, tests for identification, damage caused (including damage caused by other potato viruses), and recommended control strategies. The latter include: planting of resistant or tolerant varieties, use of virus-free seed tubers, cultural practices, postharvest plant sanitation measures and other alternatives for controlling the degeneration of seed potato caused by the virus.
