Effect of postharvest spray of some growth regulators on storage behaviour of onion.

The effects of Ethrel [ethephon] (1.25 or 2.5 ml/litre of 40% Ethrel), NAA (103 or 2 x 103 mg/litre), 2,4,5-T (5 x 102 or 103 ml/litre) or maleic hydrazide (MH; 2 x 103 or 3 x 103 mg/litre) on the storage behaviour of onions (cv. Sanchi) were investigated. Onions were stored in wooden boxes at ambient temperature for 8 months. MH was the most effective at reducing weight loss, rotting and sprouting during storage. NAA and 2,4,5-T enhanced rotting. Ethrel was the most effective at reducing greening of bulbs.
