When healthy melons were infected by R. stolonifer and F. semitectum [F. pallidoroseum] the respiratory metabolic pathway changed. The high anticyanide and high residual respiration decreased and there was a shift in the respiratory pathway. Following the formation of lesions and rotting, high concn of ethanol accumulated and the Pasteur effect was diminished, while anaerobic respiration increased to a high level. Although the pathogens caused different symptoms they had the same effect on respiratory changes.
