Studies on the control of post-harvest fruit rot of egg plant incited by Phytophthora nicotianae var. nicotianae.

Control of post-harvest fruit rot of brinjal [aubergines] caused by P. nicotianae var. nicotianae was attempted using 18 chemicals. Both pre- and post-inoculation treatments with chemicals were tested. Inoculation was made either by contact or by wounding the host surface. The results indicated that metalaxyl and Aliette [fosetyl] effectively controlled fruit rot. Pre-inoculation treatment with these 2 fungicides gave 100% control of the disease while post-inoculation treatment caused a delay in symptom expression.
