Studies on the use of CPPU for enhancing the fruit growth of kiwifruit. 2. Influence of CPPU application on fruit quality and the response of sequential application in the following year.

CPPU [forchlorfenuron] advanced kiwifruit ripening (pre- and postharvest) leading to harvesting 10-15 days early, a high total soluble solids content and low acidity. The vitamin C [ascorbic acid] content was not significantly affected. Fruit dipping did not inhibit flower induction. Similar stimulatory effects were observed when CPPU was applied the following year, providing that the orchard was managed satisfactorily.
