Ash from the rachis of plantain (Musa sp.) inflorescences was evaluated for its fungitoxicity against the yam and cassava pathogens, Sclerotium rolfsii [Corticium rolfsii], Botryodiplodia theobromae, Penicillium oxalicum and Trichoderma longibrachiatum. The growth and spore germination of all 4 fungi were completely inhibited at a 0.1 g/ml concentration. The ash also significantly reduced rot of yam (Dioscorea alata cvs. TDa 85/0236, 85/0257, 291 and 297) minisetts and cassava (Manihot esculenta cvs. TMS 30001, 50395 and 91934) ministems at concentrations of 0.05, 0.1 and 0.15 g/ml.
