Fruits of 6 chilli cultivars were stored in paper bags under ambient conditions for 6 months. Seeds were extracted from these fruits after 6 months of storage and compared with seeds extracted from fruits dried in the sun for 1 month after harvest. Seeds stored under ambient conditions for 6 months had the lower moisture content and test weight but a higher electrical conductivity and seed germination percentage. Seed viability was not affected by the length of the postharvest phase and there was no interaction with cultivar. Cultivars HC-44 and HC-28 had the highest seed quality. It is suggested that seeds should be extracted from fruits after 6 months of storage under ambient conditions.
