Storage developments attuned to consumers' wishes.

Data from Belgian studies are presented on the average changes after harvest in fruit hardness, colour and sugar content of Jonagold apples following storage for 6.5 months, during distribution and with the consumer after sale. Possible methods of improving European storage and handling conditions are discussed. Differences in consumer preferences in northern and southern Europe, regarding apple colour and texture, are mentioned.
