Control of spoilage of onion bulbs by post-harvest fungicidal treatments during storage.

The ability of postharvest fungicide treatments, mancozeb (0.25%), carbendazim (0.1%), captan (0.2%), streptocycline 0.05% and fumigation with sulfur (2g/kg of bulbs), to control spoilage of onion bulbs during storage was determined. None of the post-harvest fungicidal treatments affected physiological loss in weight (PLW). Of all the fungicide treatments, sulfur fumigation was significantly superior to the untreated control and the other treatments in reducing the spoilage of onion bulbs in terms of weight. Both sulfur fumigation and carbendazim gave significantly superior control than the other treatments in terms of % spoilage.
