Response of 'Arapaho' thornless blackberry to nitrogen fertilization: second year results.

The effect of N (0, 50 or 100 lb N/acre applied in spring or a split dose of 100 lb N/acre applied in equal doses in spring and postharvest) on yield and fruit weight, primocane production and foliar contents of N, P, K, Ca, Mg, S, Fe, Mn and Zn of blackberries cv. Arapaho was investigated in Arkansas, USA, during 1994-95. Increasing rates of N did not affect yield or cane number, but did decrease fruit weight. N rate and time of application had no significant effect on foliar contents of P, Ca, Mg, Mn and Zn. Foliar contents of N, K and S increased with increasing N rate; the highest contents of N and K were observed after a split dose of 100 lb N/acre. The highest content of Fe was observed after spring application of 50 lb N/acre.
