Decapping or emasculating cut Cymbidium (cv. Husky Honey) flowers stimulated premature senescence, reduced postharvest quality and reduced longevity. Pretreatment of cut flowers with aminoethoxyvinylglycine (AVG) prevented the second rise in ethylene production, the loss in FW and increased anthocyanin content associated with premature senescence. The longevity of all AVG treated flowers (including control flowers) was prolonged.
