Postharvest biocontrol of Lasiodiplodia rot of mango fruits by saprophytic yeasts.

Among 18 yeast isolates studied as potential agents for biocontrol of stem-end rot of mango fruits caused by L. theobromae [Botryodiplodia theobromae], 5 were selected for testing in relation to 3 pathogen concentrations (1x103, 1x104 and 1x105 conidia/ml). Isolate LM-5 of Candida maritima gave good disease control at all pathogen concentrations. When tested against 5 pathogenic isolates, LM-5 gave good disease control, and in vitro, it strongly inhibited L. theobromae spore germination. It is concluded that LM-5 demonstrated great potential as an agent for postharvest control of mango rot.
