Work initiated, or to be continued, as discussed at the meeting of the sub-group for pest and sanitation management in stored tobacco in Bristol, UK, 1997 is presented. Standardization of pest and sanitation management to ensure the same standards apply industry wide is to continue with the establishment of a network of tobacco growers associations. Research into the global variability of response by Lasioderma to phosphine and growth regulators is to continue, and a network of major pesticide producers is being established to ensure the sub-group is informed of any potential for postharvest tobacco infestation control. Training, in the form of 3 videos, based on postharvest tobacco infestation control is to be produced, as well as Lasioderma and Ephestia awareness posters featuring several different languages.
