Study of storage sunrise 'Solo' papaya fruit under controlled atmosphere.

Sunrise Solo pawpaw fruits were stored for 31 days at 10 deg C and high RH under a continuous stream of nitrogen containing 8% CO2 and 3% O2, and compared with storage in air (control). After 15, 23 and 31 days, the fruits were transferred to 25 deg C and 75-80% RH for 5 days for ripening. Weight loss, skin colour, texture, soluble solids, acidity, sugar (fructose, glucose and sucrose), vitamin C [ascorbic acid] and soluble pectin contents and decay were analysed. The results showed that controlled atmosphere (CA) storage delayed ripening. There was no incidence of decay in either treatment. Quality retention was better in CA storage than in air storage and fruit quality remained good after 36 days in CA storage.
