Development of a system for precooling using continuous liquid-ice operation.

A liquid-ice system was developed for the postharvest treatment of fruits and vegetables. The system continuously mixes ice and water. The slurry mixture obtained is injected into the boxes of produce. The new system reduced power consumption by about 80% when compared to a conventional liquid-ice precooling unit.
