บทคัดย่อ

Snap bean varietal storage life in modified atmosphere packages.

Green snap beans [Phaseolus vulgaris] (cultivars 91G, Derby, Bronco, Hialeah and Prosperity) were packed in Cryovac PD 941 polyolefin film and stored at 5 deg C. Four of the 5 cultivars can be kept for 3 weeks under these conditions. Cultivar 91G was the exception and developed chilling injury symptoms 7 days after packing. Gas compositions were similar within all packages and equilibrated at about 4% CO2 and 5% O2. There were significant differences in colour measurements between cultivars after storage. Prosperity and Hialeah showed better general appearance compared with Bronco and Derby. Weight loss was low (<3% after 21 days) with only slight cultivar differences. Initial quality assessments were favourable.
