The characteristics of A. diversifolia fruits collected in Guerrero, Mexico and their behaviour in controlled atmosphere (CA) storage were studied. This species produces fruits with 3 colours of pulp (pink, white and red). Fruits with pink pulp had lower firmness values (12.1 kg vs. 16.6 and 16.4 in white and red pulp fruits, respectively), more soluble solids (19 deg Brix vs. 15.7 and 17.5 in white and red pulp fruits, respectively), thicker skin (0.40, 0.31 and 0.30 cm, respectively), higher weight of seeds (79.9, 72.4 and 70.1 g, respectively), and fewer seeds (49, 50 and 66, respectively). The fruits exhibited a climacteric behaviour and fruit growth approximated a double sigmoid curve. Respiration rate was 30% lower and ethylene production was 50% lower in CA storage (10% CO2 + 14% O2) at 19 deg C, compared with storage in air, extending the shelf life of fruits by 5 days.
