In trials carried out at the Fazenda Experimental Lageado, Botucatu, SP, Brazil, fruits of the cucumber cultivar Perola were harvested 20, 25, 30, 35, 40 or 45 days after anthesis and stored at room temperature for 0, 5, 10 or 15 days before seed extraction. The extracted seeds were fermented for 2 days, washed and dried. Data are tabulated on seed quality characteristics (moisture content, dry matter content, size, germination and vigour). Percentage germination of extracted seeds increased as fruit age increased from 20 to 40 days, reaching 60% in seeds from fruits harvested 40 days after anthesis (seeds extracted immediately after harvest). Storage of fruits prior to seed extraction improved the quality of seeds extracted from 20-day-old fruits but seed quality did not attain the levels observed in 40-day-old fruits without storage. Seeds extracted from 25-, 30- and 35-day-old fruits stored for 10 or 15 days attained the same quality as seeds extracted from 40-day-old fruits without storage.
