The development of rhizome rot (caused by Fusarium oxysporum f.sp. zingiberi) of ginger (Zingiber officinale) during storage was studied. Rhizomes with varying degrees of initial invasion were selected by visual observation from a farmers field at harvest time in December. The rhizomes were stored in transparent polythene bags with sand as packing material and kept in the laboratory at room temperature. Observations on disease development were recorded following a normal seed storage period. The results indicated that the extent of rot development in rhizomes was dependent on the extent of initial invasion at harvest. Microscopic examination of visually healthy tissues revealed the presence of the pathogen.
