Postharvest diseases of Gladiolus and Lilium in Taiwan were studied during the storage period. The disease severity increased after a period of time in storage. Pathogens typically isolated were Penicillium, Aspergillus, Mucor, Rhizopus, Alternaria, Rhizoctonia solani, Botryosphaeria and Fusarium. Three major sources of postharvest disease were identified, specifically, cultural practice, methods of harvesting and transport. It is suggested that good cultural practices, reduced injury during harvesting, chemical treatment after harvesting and improved sanitary measures in packing material would result in reduced incidence of postharvest disease of Lilium and Gladiolus.
