Progress in the development of a postharvest treatment to combat blackheart in 'Queen' pineapples.

A brief report is presented of trials at the ARC-Institute for Tropical and Subtropical Crops, South Africa, in which the efficacy of the following postharvest treatments in controlling internal browning of fruits of pineapple cv. Queen was investigated: imbibition, controlled atmosphere storage, modified atmosphere storage, hypobaric storage, hot water treatment and hot air treatments.
