Practical aspects of pre-harvest and postharvest practices affecting the quality of cashew nuts are discussed. It is concluded that in order to maintain the quality of raw nuts for processing: (1) farmers need to be educated on method and storage of harvest; (2) price needs to be fixed on the basis of nut size and moisture content; (3) a high degree of cleanliness has to be maintained in the drying yard and storage area; and (4) raw nuts in warehouses should be monitored at regular intervals and receive sufficient ventilation and aeration.
