A storage rot of garlic bulbs in the Tabas region of Khorasan province, Iran, was observed for the first time in 1996-97. About 30% of the bulbs were decayed and a white mould formed on some cloves. The mould was identified as a Fusarium sp. Basal cloves of some bulbs showed yellowing and browning symptoms. A Fusarium sp. was consistently isolated from cloves with these symptoms and was identified as F. oxysporum on the basis of cultural characteristics and morphology. Pathogenicity was confirmed by inoculation of plants at the 4 leaf stage.
