Cut flowers of varieties, hybrids and wild species of Delfinium [Delphinium], Limonium and carnation (Dianthus) were evaluated for longevity. Delfinium genotypes had poor quality and low genetic variability. Limonium genotypes showed now genetic variability. In contrast, great variability was found for carnation genotypes, and a breeding programme was initiated for improvement of flower longevity.
