This study was carried out to evaluate the postharvest quality parameters of mango fruits grown in northern Chile and then shipped 2000 km south to their potential market in the Metropolitan Region (Santiago). Observed data indicated that unrefrigerated fruits shipped by air are equivalent in quality to refrigerated fruits shipped by land. Furthermore, it was confirmed that the use of polyethylene wrappers significantly reduces fruit dehydration, but also increases the risk of spoilage if the fruits are stored in this way for a long period.
