A procedure for the fermentation of cultures of Gibberella fujikuroi is described. Using this procedure, a solution containing gibberellic acid as well as other biologically active gibberellins (designated IC-GIB), was obtained. The composition of the solution was determined by fluorometric thin layer chromatography and extraction with organic solvents. The characterization of the gibberellins was carried out by HPLC. The original culture contained a total gibberellins concentration of 1 g/litre, in which gibberellic acid was the main component of the mixture followed by GA1. Application of the solution (IC-GIB) to citrus trees, guava, strawberry and pawpaw resulted in an increase in yield. The solution also enhanced the quality and postharvest behaviour of limes and increased seed germination viability in mangoes.
