Experiments were conducted on banana cv. Dwarf Cavendish fruits, slightly immature by commercial standards, grown in Tenerife, to study the effects of silver thiosulfate (STS), CoCl2 and AVG on respiration and ethylene production. Infiltration treatment of fruit slices with these inhibitors showed some stronger effects than expected. AVG (0.25 mM) inhibited endogenous ethylene production and cobalt ions inhibited induced respiration and ethylene production. STS was less effective.
