Differences in the sensitivity of 15 miniature rose cultivars to ethylene were investigated. Exposure to exogenous ethylene reduced the percentage of healthy open flowers and accelerated leaf, bud and flower abscission in most cultivars, although differences were observed between cultivars. Vanilla exhibited the longest postharvest life. Such differences in postharvest life are discussed in relation to differences in the concentrations of endogenous ethylene and in the sensitivity to exogenous ethylene.
