In 1997 and 1998 in field trials in Borovce near Piest'any, Slovakia, the effect of biopreparations on the protection of seed and young plants of winter wheat against pathogens transmitted by seed, soil and postharvest residues was tested and compared with a chemical preparation and a non-treated control. Least disease (Fusarium spp. and Pseudocercosporella herpotrichoides) was found in the treatments where biopreparations were applied in the form of dressing (Ekovert) and in the form of spray for straw (Trichomil) in comparison with the control (non-treated) and chemical treatment (Vitavax 200 FF [carboxin]). Significantly higher yield was recorded with biopreparations than in the control and non-significantly higher in comparison with the chemical treatment. In 1998 non-significantly lower yield was observed in the biopreparation treatments in comparison with the chemical treatment.
