Italia grapes grown conventionally or organically in Taranto province were pretreated with 20% CO2 for 48 h before storage at 0 deg C and 90-95% RH for 30 days. Organic grapes were more prone to storage decay than those grown conventionally. Pretreatment with CO2 reduced storage decay in both types of grape; it had a marked effect during the first 10 days of cold storage on organic grapes.
