Studies on shelf-life of Perlette grapes as affected by various cushioning materials.

An experiment was conducted during 1994 to determine the effect of cushioning materials on the shelf-life of grapes during storage at room temperature (44.5 deg C) for 8 days. Fully ripened Perlette grapes were harvested and packed in cardboard boxes with paper cuttings, paper lining and fresh neem [Azadirachta indica] leaves as cushioning materials. Fruits packed with paper cuttings showed more physiological weight loss than the other linings but loss due to decay and fruit acidity were lowest for this treatment.
