Bagging cultural techniques for loquat in Xiangchuan county, Japan.

Bagging cultural techniques for loquats, including site selection and planting, training and pruning, fertilizing, fruit thinning and bagging, pest and disease control, harvesting and postharvest handling, are described. Flower cluster thinning is carried out in early October and bagging in mid-late March. There are 3 kinds of bag: white, yellow and orange. White bags can bring fruit maturity forwards by 2-3 days, but also make the fruits smaller. Annual fertilizer amounts for adult loquat trees in Japan are 30 kg N, 22.5 kg P and 24 kg K per 1000 m2; 50% of these amounts (mainly as well rotted organic manure) are applied in autumn and 30% (mainly as chemical fertilizers) in early spring (mid-late February).
